The American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) is a nonprofit organization created to support the plaintiffs in Perry v. Schwarzenegger, a federal lawsuit to overturn Proposition 8 in California.[1] AFER retained former U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson and David Boies (who worked on opposite sides in Bush v. Gore) to file the suit.[2]
AFER was founded by political consultant Chad Griffin.[3] AFER board members include Rob Reiner and Bruce Cohen.[1]
